Hey everyone! Sorry for the lengthy post but I just signed up and I am excited to see where this journey takes my family. My name is Paul and my family and I are moving to Greenville, SC in 2 months from now.

A little bit of background about myself - I’m an Assistant Controller for a global Ed Tech company. I’ve been in the accounting world for just about 10 years. All of my friends can’t believe I’m in the accounting world, and honestly, I feel the same way. Accounting doesn’t fit my personality, absolutely no offense to all my fellow accountants reading this! I was actually hired in the position I am in today because of personality, the CFO and CEO loved what I could bring to the team with my personality more than my accounting knowledge. But there is no way I can retire doing accounting. I can’t sit behind a desk my entire life, I’m a people person, outgoing, sociable and looking to connect with anyone with like-minded goals! But I am grateful for everything I have learned, especially becoming financially literate. My end goal would be to have my real estate investments cash flow to the point where I could stop working whenever I’d like.

With all that being said, I’ve read a few books, joined facebooks groups and so on but I’m ready to jump in once I move down. Also, just for context, not sure if this matter but we will be consumer debt free, student loans and car, at the end of this year so we will have a clean slate. We never owned a house, just rented apartments and for at least another year, we will be renting in Greenville to learn the area before we plant our roots.

Just a few questions:

1 - Are there any accountants here that left the accounting world and started real estate investing full time? I would love to hear your journey and how you made that leap.

2 - If you were in my shoes, being a Newbie and all, is there any advice to get me started? I want to start with a BRRRR because I feel like it would throw me right into the fire. I would learn how to not only buy a house but fix it up, become a landlord and refinance all in one property. But please tell me if I'd be better off starting off with something else. Thinking about getting my real estate license as well to gain more knowledge.

3 - I would love to connect with anyone in the Greenville area. Please feel free to add me on here and maybe we can meet up once I am down there. We could grab some coffee, drinks, food, whatever you want, all on me of course! I would love to chat and it would be nice to make some friends since we won’t have any down there when we move!

Also - if someone does come forward from the Greenville area and would like to help me get started on my journey, I am more than willing to help you accomplish your goals as well! I am great with numbers and can help with financials and other KPI’s you might be looking at. I know some people just can’t stand financials but I am more than willing to help you out with anything you need and maybe save you some time!

Sorry again for this long post! But any comments would be greatly appreciated and I wish you all great success in 2021 and beyond!
