@Andrew Postell I need consultation on how to handle an estate with property that has multiple heirs...

I have a relative who has property that was Willed. The issue is that the property was willed to 3 individuals many years ago and at this point we are not sure who the surviving heirs are. My relative has been solely caring for the property for decades and wants to take action on the property (i.e. sell or pass down) but we need to find the heirs and have them relinquish their right to the property. Mostly we need advice on how to navigate this issue.

Hello BP community,

What are you looking for them to do?  For example if you are wanting to sell a home after someone passed, many of the title attorney's can handle that. If you want someone to write a will/trust that might be a different attorney.   Having more info on what you want them to do for you might help us point you in the right direction.

@Michael Swan interesting point of view. Your response reflects what I was initially feeling, especially having the pressure to pick something that may not fit my goals, but it is good to get these points from someone who has done so many 1031 exchanges. Thanks for your input.

@Dave Foster thank you so much for the thorough response. This really helps me with determining what to do next. I’ll be listing my property this weekend and I will let you know how it goes.
