Thank you. @Bryan Hancock @David Thompson This is exactly the information I am looking for. Before jumping into this industry,  I wanted to gauge if this was a career I would be successful in, as well as enjoy.  Of course my research isn't over, but you have kindly provided me with some great advice. Thank you.

David, thank you. I will definitely PM you.

Thank you @Bryan Hancock @Jeff Greenberg @David Thompson. Your replies were highly insightful and informative. I sincerely appreciate your time and effort. Thank you.

As for experience, I want to know what to do to get those companies to consider me. I have only completed 1 year in an MBA in International Finance at the University of Chicago, have Series 7,63,66 and have done the CFA program I & II so far. I have previously worked in Investment Banking as an analyst, and was a Forex trader.

@David Thompson, I like the idea of a coach. Where can I find someone who is willing to coach me? How do I approach them? What are they looking for in a candidate? I would like to be based in Chicago since I will start small at first with the network I have here.

As for clients, my "friend" is actually a old friend of my late father, who is a very successful NYC Private Banker at a very prestigious Bank.

Hello everyone,

I am looking to make a career change and become a commercial real estate broker in Chicago. (A good friend told me that I should go into commercial real estate and he would send his HNW clients (10+million to me). He wants me to learn to syndicate commercial real estate deals.

What Is the best course of action in your opinion, get a CRE or a CCIM designation? or both? If so which first? Is an MBA necessary? What other qualifications do you think may be useful? What kind of company should I work in/for to get the right kind of experience? Would I need to create my own commercial real estate brokerage firm or real estate investment firm? What other advice would you give someone in my situation?

Thank you in advance for all your advice.

Hello,

My name is Nisrin Martin and I'm from Chicago, and currently work in finance. I'm looking to invest in commercial real estate, buy/hold/ rent/ lease. I have a little idea of the business just by learning from some of my clients'portfolios and would like to recreate this income stream for myself. Always looking to network with others. Thank you.

Billy and to anyone who would like to answer,

Thank you! That's very motivating! I like hard work which is one reason I want to go out on my own. I want to be proactive rather than wait for someone else's orders. My problem in my last corporate job.

Do you think I should sit for the Commercial Real Estate License? Would that help me?

Thank you

Hello Billy,

A reall insightful and motivating post! I'm new to investing and being recently laid off I'm considering going on my own into commercial real estate.  What advice would you have for a first timer? How did you purchase your first property? What was your strategy?

Thank you for the advice.

Nisrin
