How do you know what the real estate market is like in a specific area without being there to acquire that information?

Hi BiggerPockets soon to be colleagues, Im 19 and from Kingston, Jamaica. Last year i finished high school but didn't really know what i would be passionate about so i put off going to college and begun working. Recently I got accepted into a college in Toronto, Canada for mechanical engineering and I'm interested in out of state investing. Real estate investing feels like my true calling and I'm excited to be here to learn and grow and share what i have learnt to help anyone out. Glad to be here.
