Welcome to Philly, Sebastian. Are you looking for a house or a multi?

House hacking is a great way to get started. When I first moved back to Philly, I bought a triplex in the Graduate Hospital area. I picked that neighborhood as I could walk to work and saw that the area was appreciating. I liked that it is surrounded by universities and hospitals, and I haven't had problems getting tenants.

If I was doing the same thing now, I'd look at parts of Kensington, which is getting overflow from Fishtown, Point Breeze, and parts of South Philly. All of these neighborhoods are fairly accessible via El or Subway.  Philly really changes block to block.  I'd suggest walking and driving around some of these neighborhoods to get a feel for them.

If you aren't set on living in Philly, I'd take a look at some of the towns in Montgomery County that are walkable.  Maybe Ambler or Conshohocken.

Hi Rees, welcome to Bigger Pockets. There is a lot of great information as well as connections here. I moved back to Philly in 2012 and bought a triplex to house hack. It started my real estate journey and was one of the best decisions that I ever made. I lived for free and, when I moved out, the triplex became a cash flow machine.

What neighborhoods are you looking at?

Best of luck!
