Post: Chicago Areas for Owner Occupied Opportunities

Hi all,

I'm relocating to Chicago from Pittsburgh in the near future and face the obstacle of a sharp increase in cost of living. Does anyone have any advice on reasonably priced areas in which to rent that would be appealing to a young professional (mid 20s)?

In addition to the possibility to renting, I'm very interested in the opportunity to buy a duplex and do an Owner Occupied kind of set up to help off set the sharp increase in cost of living. Any suggestions on a good area for something like this? Especially for a young person hoping to be close to a good social scene? (If you are familiar with Pittsburgh, the city's Southside Neighborhood is a good example of this.) Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Greetings Everyone,

My name is Nick Schenkel and I am currently living and working in Pittsburgh, PA. I have a Sales/Service position with the Valspar Corporation's Packaging business segment, specializing in barrier coatings for metal containers.

I have no experience with Real Estate Investing to speak of, however I am looking to educate myself in order to help break into Real Estate Investing with a good understanding of the subject. I have started by reading numerous books, but I lack a personal network to bounce ideas off of, learn from, etc. Ultimately, I hope to establish passive income, but I am also interested in flips.

I would love to connect with others in and around the Pittsburgh area. Looking forward meeting new people and learning new things!
