Hi Stefan, unfortunately there hasn't been an in person meetup in quite awhile.  In the meantime, Doug Karkow and Austin Davis have set up a zoom meetup that has been meeting regularly, I will PM you a link to join the group!

What Market are you in? I can give you some contacts in the Cedar Rapids Area if needed. I know of some lenders that will do up to 100% financing if the ARV will support it (They will finance 100% of the project, up to 80% of the after repair value).

I am up in Cedar Rapids and would be happy to help you search for a place.  I have lived in my 3 plex for the last several years and house hacking is a great route to go!  Good deals on house hack properties in our area don't show up often but they do come by occasionally.  The trick is to get all your ducks in a row so you're ready when the right deal presents itself.

Hello everyone, I hope your friends and families are safe and your homes are still standing.  I'm still not sure how it's been a week already, but here we are.  I've spent The last 7 days going house to house helping friends and family cut trees out of their yards and off of their houses, volunteering at the fire department, patching roofs, walls, etc.  It has been exhausting, stressful, rewarding, and a great diet strategy (down 5 lbs. in 5 days!).

As the power comes on, daily life returns, and reality sets in, there is much more work to come.  I created this thread so that we could share our experiences and help each other out with the unique challenges we will be facing in the coming months.  We will be dealing with insurance companies, contractors, utility companies, etc.  There are contractors here from all over the country that no one has worked with before, some will be good, some will be bad.  Please share your experiences here and let others know what is working for you, and what you still need help with.

Hello everyone, I hope that you and your families are safe and that your interactions with insurance companies go smoothly!  At this time I am cancelling the meetup for tomorrow, I do not even know for sure that the park is open, let alone that our meeting spot is still there.  Take the evening to continue helping your friends and neighbors and we will try to get together when things slow down.

Thanks

Hello everyone! I have the reserved the Teal Pavilion in Fay Clark Memorial Park, Hiawatha.  Due to COVID the city is not allowing food at this time unless it is individually packaged.  I look forward to seeing everyone there!

1200 N 18th Ave, Hiawatha, IA 52233.  The pavilion is near the parking lot.

Venue Update!  Hello everyone, I have reserved the Meadowlark Shelter in Squaw Creek Park.  From what I've read transmission of the virus is greatly reduced outdoors.  At this time I do not have a way to make it a virtual event, but I will take some notes and report back with some of what is discussed! A few of us will probably show up early and grill out, bring any food or beverages you want.

Directions: Enter Squaw Creek Park off of Banner Dr. Take a right into the park and stay on Big Bluestem Dr. until you go up into the timber.  The turn off for our shelter is right before the playground, if you pass that you've gone too far.  feel free to call me at 319-777-8998 if you have trouble finding it!
