Quote from @Shannon Wright:

Hey Neil! I personally know a firefighter turned full-time wholesaler. I helped him close his first deal years ago. About 2 years in he quit his FF job. This is obviously not how it will go for everyone but it is definitely possible. I remember when we had deals pause because he was fighting a fire.

He ended up marrying someone who had a realtor's license not too long ago.

I can't imagine you will struggle to find a broker who will take on a PT agent, but let me know if you have a struggle - maybe I can refer you to a few brokers. A lot of brokers will let you pay per deal for fees, too.

Thank you and that is also an avenue I didn’t think about . I try to be friendly everywhere I go to make friends and believe that building a network wouldn’t be too difficult for me but I don’t know what I don’t know. But again thank you for the advice and will be working towards it

Thank you and yes I am vested with my department thankfully and have 15 years until medical is paid. Thank you for breaking down the cost for me. Thankfully the station I am at isn’t very busy so I have the opportunity to do business while at my fire job and more than likely not get interrupted. My only concern is my schedule changes all the time meaning the days I’m not scheduled to work can change to now I’m working. Which I know from being in other business that that does not look good to clients if I have to cancel showing or if I don’t show for showing and pay someone else to show my house

Thank you for your response. I completely understand the idea of its building a business. The first part for me is investing in real estate since I have a secured job that I’m hoping can subsides some income to give me the freedom to put more time to real estate with a eventual transition to full time real estate business. I guess my main question is is there any minor profit in being part time if the work is put in. I understand realtors are basically private contractors and they o my get what they put in but with how the market is I don’t want to invest in my license and the fees and programs that are associated with it if I’m bleeding money

Thank you for the response. Yes I want to invest and I also want to transition from being gone from the family to being home more. Also heard there are tons of fees once you get the license due to mls fees and what not. Just trying to figure out if it will drain money or if I can even make a decent amount of money. Also looking at jobs everything is full time

Quote from @Sherry McQuage:

Where there's a will, there's a way.  Look online for https://kscore.kw.com/. You can receive training and tools at no cost to you.  It's a completely digital curriculum.  If you get your license and join Keller Williams, I would be delighted to be a (long-distance) mentor to you.

If real estate interests you (either as an agent, as an investor, or as a skill for future job change), if doesn't hurt to get the training and earn the license.  I worked in different fields for decades, was a stay at home mom, then activated my real estate license (it was inactive for 15 years and I stayed up on my continuing education).  When my youngest went to school, I changed my license status to Active, and have learned and enjoyed helping people buy/sell/invest for around 7 years now.

Everyone's journey is different....you might one day no longer be a firefighter...you might move to another state....you might want to buy a house one day and having a real estate license could save you some money.  My point is this:  it can't hurt to learn more and get the license.  Even if you never use it (Active status), you will learn something that can help you.

I'm in NC, and don't know much about CA real estate firms; I would think that as long as you pay any monthly fees, a firm would be happy to have you.  There are even online firms.  If learning is a lifelong passion of yours, Keller Williams Realty is know for it's amazing education and growth opportunities.

The years pass quickly...figure out what you want the next 1, 5, and 10 years to look like and go for it.

Best to you!

Hey everyone!! Has the title shows I’m about to start the process to gain my real- estate license. I am a full time firefighter that works 82 hours on with 96 hours off but my schedule changes daily I may be forced to stay at work on my regular days off and I’m worried that I will not be able to find a brokerage that will allow me to work part time. Also as a part time realtor is it even worth it to try and become a realtor in today’s market. I am trying to transition in to full time realtor but unable to do so at the moment as financial demands require me to stay employed with my department
