@John A Murray thanks for the input. Yes i have done quite a bit of research these past couple of days and like you mentioned, my next step is to get a quote from a contractor to get a ball park number. I read througth the updated city guidelines for ADU process and it seems like they're trying to make the process a lot smoother than prior years. Thanks!

@Fabian Martinez @Fabian Martinez thanks for the input! The garage is about 700 sf. It needs proper insulation, water line connection, gas, electrical, removal of garage door, window addition, laminate flooring, paint and I’m sure a few other things I’ve missed.

As for your barn-granny flat conversion, that's great! Have you been involved with other ADU's?

Hi BP community! First of all, I'd like to say thank you to everyone out there for providing great content and feedback on these forums and blogs. I've definitely learned a ton just by reading and listening to the BP podcasts and I figured its time to finally Jump in and get started!

So I came across this great opportunity in the City of Long Beach, which has a detached garage that im looking to convert to an ADU. I checked the city ADU guidelines, and the property does meet all the requirements. My question is, what exactly should i expect in terms of the construction costs, timeline and permitting process? I know this may be a lot to answer but any ball-park answers will by much appreciated.

Thanks!
