I'm moving to the Jacksonville, FL area in a couple months. I've done the leg work with the bank to see what they will do for me. Now, I've got the approval and feel gun shy. I'm using a VA loan, so I will have to occupy whatever I buy. My thought is multi-family unit. However, another thought crossed my mind such as buying a home for less with extra property I could develop later. Thoughts?

Hello BP,

My name is Matthew Nance and I'm an Active Duty military service member living in the San Diego Area. At this particular moment I'm deployed but, I will return to SD soon enough. I've been on and off BP, mostly for information, for the last couple years and recently remembered I once had a goal to invest in real estate. If I had to say anything about deployments, they certainly give you time to reflect and assess your place in the world. I have absolutely no experience in real estate investing so if you're looking for advice, I'm not sure I should be the first person to ask. However, if you'd like to now a thing or two about anything else, send me a message and I'll be glad to reply. Prior to my current status I worked for Harley-Davidson dealerships for almost seven years (yes, I probably can answer your question) and have been serving in the military the last six years. I think I'm pretty realistic with my current goals and don't feel they're refined enough to post, yet I am a huge supporter of goals and planning, a skill set that I am thankful to the military for giving me. I am looking to invest in multi-family properties in the San Diego area and yes its the weather that keeps me there. So thank you to all the contributors and individuals who created and continue to build such a great, resourceful network for those of us who are lost and don't know where to start.
