Hey

I'm from Edmonton and I do basements. How big was the basement? If it was a 800-1000 square foot basement, 20 k is pretty good. Our cost usually is about there and we charge 35-45 depending on finishes and whatnot. From what I see, forums from the US are not a good indicator for us here, especially in Alberta, because everything seems so freakishly low. I read the forums but I take the numbers with a grain of salt. A full reno for us (and were extremely efficient) is over 50k up and down and we still make good margins. So in the end, focus on your margins and percents and not on the actual costs the post here.

Hi there,

First off, how many people here are from Edmonton? I haven't come across very many. It would be neat to have a meetup of some people in Edmonton.

Anyways, my brother and I are looking to get into the infill market..building skinny homes, duplexes, fourplexes etc. We just bought a piece of land in Jasper place on the west end and are planning two skinnies there. Now we've done a ton of research and calculated numbers as best as we can...and it seems that the construction costs will come out to $120/sf. We have been in construction our whole life so estimating isn't an issue, its just that we haven't built from scratch yet.

Our main issue is that I hear people saying $180+ for a cost for a standard skinny home...which seems steep to me....so I am looking for any information that I could before getting started. We have already bought the land so we will start construction but I want to know if anyone has any ideas on a good square foot price to keep in mind. And what about duplexes and 4plexes? Are they cheaper to construct?

Thanks for your time!
