Thanks for the encouragement Brandon Turner! I am focusing on research right now and finding local REIA meetings. I am excited to be getting started!

Oh and thanks Michael! I am very serious about my involvement in the RE industry. It is truly my passion in life I have done all of the "right/typical" things to ensure that my family's financial future is secure. Now I am ready to finally spend my time and learned skill set to help me succeed in something I am truly passionate about. I love this website! The people here have proven to he top notch and the amount of information is se one to none. Cheers! - M

Thanks so much for all of the responses! I think I'll take your advice and keep things simple while I can. However, while I am keeping things simple (not incorporating for now) I will complete my diligence on incorporation so that I know exactly what my next steps are for a variety of potential scenarios. I like the idea of sitting down with both an accountant and attorney (Something about that last statement seems crazy...an accountant and an attorney all in one setting?! Jk )to determine the most value added options for me.

I can't thank you all enough for chiming in on my thread! I hope you all have a spectacular week! -M

I am looking to incorporate myself for a variety of reasons before fully engaging in my RE journey. I am curious what option you took for incorporation and why you chose that option. I have an MBA so I know a decent amount about the benefits and disadvantages of each option but I want to know what others in the RE world chose to do. I am just now trying to figure things out but potentially I would like to flip some homes and I would like to broaden my RE portfolio to hold some properties long term and live off (or save or use the cash to continue investing it all depends on my 9-5 situation) of the cash flow so that I can hopefully retire early.

I am assuming that the S-Corp route is the way to go but I am not certain. There are also a variety of ways to get this done online but I am a little nervous about handling something so important via a website. Did you use a website or an attorney and/or an accountant to assist you with your incorporation? I live in TN...just in case you are curious.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Thank you for your response James! I am sure I will be up late tonight scouring the blogs and forums. I appreciate your encouragement on the mentor topic. I believe I bring something valuable to the table with my experience and skill set. Hopefully others will believe that too! I would love nothing more than to get started "on the right foot" by working with and learning from someone who knows what they are doing!

Hello biggerpockets.com community! My name is Monica and I am joining because I am interested in investing in real estate in Memphis, TN and the surrounding areas.

I have always had a passion for real estate but I decided to pursue a conventional path to provide for my family. I am a Sr Engineer in the medical device community now and recently acquired an Executive MBA from the University of Memphis. I am more eager than ever to finally follow my dream and enter the real estate investment and management arena. I currently manage one property that I own and am rehabbing a family owned property that will be on the market soon.

I have had much success in my professional career thus far and that is due in large part to a wonderful network of mentors and colleagues. My main agenda for now is to seek out relationships in Memphis and to learn more about the market here. I want to do my diligence to investigate and make sure I have what it takes to be successful in long term real estate investing. My family is rooted in Memphis and I am passionate about the success of Memphis. I have participated in many local events to work towards creating a better city. I invest my time and money in Memphis and hope to play a bigger part in Memphis' comeback. I know that my knowledge, experience managing large projects and budgets, and drive to succeed will enable me to be a positive contributor to the real estate investing community.

It appears that there are several REIAs in town and I am unsure of where to begin. I am considering just showing up for a few local events to see what is happening and hopefully meet new people that can help me get started. I would love to find someone willing to invest some time in me and help me get my real estate career started in Memphis. I am a leader in what I do now but I am a humble eager learner who is always striving to learn, know and do new things. I know every newbie is looking for a mentor but I hope I am willing to convince someone that I am worth their time!

That's all for now. I am looking forward to my real estate investing future and coming to know you all.

Monica
