@Duncan Taylor Thank you, I have done so and they are working on it as we speak.. I just wanted a second opinion on the situation. :-)

@Joel Owens I have contacted my case worker and they are working on this problem at the moment. The landlord did come out and but a bigger belt on the heating unit. That had no affect on the temp in the house. Everything is still the same. So I am trying to get my case worker to talk to the landlord about breaking my lease

@Rob K Well FYI its section 8, but its not entirely free. I work just like everyone else. I have to pay a percentage of the rent still. This is good with me being a student and having two small children to attend to. With that bein said, weither its free or not, living in these conditions with two small children is not safe. No sweater needed, its time to end the lease because the house needs to be renovated. we have at least 2 more months of this freeze and me and my kids plan to be warm.

@Charles Morgan Plastic over the windows and area Rugs have been used and the house is still cold throughout the days and nights. The house needs more constriction work done to it. I have two small children in the home so this is a very serious problem for me. I feel that reason alone is acceptable for me to break a lease

@Duncan Taylor Keep in mind that my heat is always set on 75 inside the house...

@Patrick L. Thanks ill keep that in mind.

@Raymond Martinez Yes, he has tried to fix the heating unit, but that didn't solve the problem. The house is still cold during this cold weather only because its an old house, poor insulation...

@Kyle J. The house was quickly inspected by HUD, and it was warm at the time of move in so I couldn't tell how well the house would stand up in the cold. But once I LIVED in the unit I was noticing how cold the floors were getting and the air that was drafting through the windows. I am unhappy with my energy bill and that even thought I overworked my heating unit that my house is still below temp.

@Duncan Taylor Yes, the house needs insulation underneath and it needs energy efficient windows put in because the house is very old. The floors stay cold releasing a breeze throughout the house.

Daytime Temp outside: 27 Daytime Temp inside: 66

Night Temp outside: 13 Night Temp inside: 55 See the problem here?

I have giving the landlord over a month to fix the problem, and in that time my children did become sick while waiting. No case worker involved.

Hi, I am a 23 yr. old mother of two (5yr and 2yr) and I am living in a section 8 rental home. I moved in the home on Nov. 1, 2013. I am not satisfied with the house now because its not energy efficient and uninhabitable. I want to end my lease due to the construction work that needs to be done on the unit. I have been in the unit for 3 months and it is unbearable to live in during these harsh winter days/nights. What should I do about breaking this lease early with my landlord.
