True Anthony, very true. :) Actually, that's what I've been doing, paying for things in cash as I save. I was looking into getting a loan this time to get the project completed all at once.

That's a good point Sergey. There are HOA payments that I make but again, it's not rent.

I'm trying to improve my credit and rental payments can be reported to the bureaus.

I own the property free and clear so I don't have a mortgage. Improving my credit to qualify for an HELOC is worth paying a bit more so that i am able to fix up a duplex that I have and haven't been able to get funding to fix up and rent out.

I've seen posts about renting to myself for tax purposes but I does anyone know if I could set myself up as a tenant and make rental payments for my personal property and if I were to do so, could I report the payments to the credit bureaus?

Hi, I just saw this post because I am interested in doing the same thing. Could you tell me if I would need to contact my bank about how to get this done? Should I speak to a lawyer to set it up? Any more suggestions you have I'd appreciate. Thanks!
