You took the words right out my mouth  Mr. !!!  if not Detroit, why not Lincoln Nebraska or Toledo Ohio? Those were my 2nd and 3rd choices!!! I know that I have  a lot to learn Mr. Dooley but I am not here to get mocked at.   And I get the whole concept of investing in a place where I understand the market.  As I mentioned before, I live in San Diego and I have tried buying a second investment property.  At this point, I can't.  But I want to invest in some now, so in my novice mind, my thought is to buy in a place where it is dirt cheap (cash), rehab it, and rent it.  Do that a few more times in a place where is more doable.  So, I thought out of state.  I thought Detroit.  Are there better places?  I do not doubt that you and many others are nodding their heads yes.   I want to get learn and I am not going to learn if I don't put myself out there.  I believe that there are good people in this forum that I can learn from.    C/S, Moises Villalpando

The best way to invest in Detroit would be to move there, learn the market very well, and start buying investments based on your criteria. There is no way that I would tell someone, especially with little experience, to buy property in another state or city that they do not know. Why Detroit? Why not Lincoln Nebraska or Toledo Ohio? Warren Buffett would say to only invest in what you know.

Hello, I am from San Diego and I am definitely a newbie when it comes down to investing and new to biggerpockets. I have just one rental property here in San Diego but after listening to Ashley Hamilton, I am more motivated than ever.
