@Paul Timmins Thank you for all the advice. I will check out the podcast and the suggested reading. I'll have to hold off on the REIA meetings as I'm not sure where I will be next and won't be back for a while now.

As for your buddy, was he already settled into an area of investing while deployed? My struggle is that I don't really have an area in the states as I am currently living overseas.

Hey, I'm Milton Johnson

I am 22 years old and just beginning my journey into real estate investing. The last place I've lived in the US was Tucson, AZ, but I am originally from Los Angeles, CA. I am active military, now stationed overseas. I came across BP while doing some research and ran across this posting that caught my attention:

http://www.biggerpockets.com/renewsblog/2013/02/09/how-to-start-investing-real-estate-young/

I came across this article because I googled searched just that "How to get into real estate at a young age." My goal is to get started in REI, but I really wanted to know what would be the best way to do this while I am out of the country?

I joined this site to network with other investors and learn from others who know the ins and outs to REI and have probably even been in my situation. I have read Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Real Estate Investing and have considered Rental properties and Notes as something I could look into and have even been suggested to look into turnkey properties to build income for the time being but I am open to other suggestions.

I look forward to meeting you all. Thanks for stopping by.

@James Wise Would you suggest I look into areas that I know? Also, how would I find some of these companies.

@Joel W. Thanks for the advise. I am finding it difficult, but I figured that would be the case with the distance and just starting out in general.

Hello @Brandon Curson

I am in pretty much the same boat as you with being overseas and all. However, I do not currently have a core team in place to rely on. I am also looking to get started in my own journey into REI. The only problem I am finding is where to invest and also who would manage the properties. I am from Los Angeles, CA, but also have people that I can work with in Tucson, AZ. The only problem is the reliability.

I was considering investing into notes as @Andy Mirza said in his post. Andreas, do you know how I would get started in investing in performing notes?

Hey, I'm Milton Johnson

I am just beginning my journey into real estate investing. The last place I've lived in the US was Tucson, AZ, but I am originally from Los Angeles, CA. I am active military, now stationed overseas. I currently have limited capital. I wanted to know what is the best tool to passively invest and build up while I am out of the country?
