I'm organizing four events across the US for local short-term rental hosts to come together to have a beer and chat about challenges they've faced and things they've learned over the year and swap a few stories. The events are being sponsored by Hospitable.com and a couple of their integration partners.

Come along if you're in Orlando, Atlanta, Austin, or LA in October (shortly after BPCON).

There'll be beer and food paid for by Hospitable and each event will be hosted at a local brewery. More details on the dates and locations here: https://hospitable.com/host-and-toast/

Echoing what others have said here but I work for Hospitable and plenty of our customers recommend Schlage Encode. We have a long list of locks we support but that's the one I hear most positive comments about.

Would definitely recommend checking out The Host Co @Diana Mulvihill - I know a lot of hosts using Hospitable.com are using it and seeing the benefits. We had a great podcast episode with their co-founder recently.

Hi Brad, I'm from the Hospitable.com team (a top-rated short-term rental property management software) and we had a great webinar on taxes a couple of months ago - I recommend checking it out here.

Quote from @Sunil Ghosal:

This is a cheap rebrand of Google Hotel Ads. It will become a paid service. Right now only about 1-2% of my revenue comes from GVR.

I can imagine GVR becoming pay-to-play and you having to spend money to gain traffic from it at some point, but if you are working with a PMS that offers that integration for free (shameless plug of Hospitable.com 😉 full disclosure, I work there) then right now any traffic or bookings you do get are a great bonus!

Sounds like a great idea - I'd recommend checking out something like The Host Co if you haven't already. You can use it to build a nice-looking store for your add-ons and it nicely integrates with most property management software, so that you can automate sending the store link to your guests

Quote from @Devon Moore:

1. Have you gotten insurance similar to Air Cover for issues that may arise?

2. I have seen that creating a site through a PMS is not a good idea since it makes it difficult to chnage PMS in the future and you may not have the full rights to your URL. Has anyone created the site themselves and connected it to a PMS somehow? I currently use hospitable.

3. What are the book keeping and occupancy tax challenges that are faced?

4. Are there any good resources I should look into to learn more about this process?

Hi Devon, Miles from the Hospitable team here. It looks like the community has already answered many of your questions, but I wanted to clarify the Hospitable Direct offering in case you didn't know some of these details yet.

1. If you choose a Direct Premium subscription with Hospitable, you get $5M worth of damage protection (powered by Superhog) on every booking

2. A great idea here would be to create the site yourself externally and simply use the Hospitable widgets integrated on your website to get all of our PMS functionality on the website that you own. We'd love for you to not feel the need to switch but should it come to that, that will make it easier to part ways with Hospitable if you really wanted to.

3. Hospitable will calculate and collect taxes for you. We'll soon even start remitting for you (we're rolling this out state by state in the US)
