I was taught from veteran landlord and his mission was very clear to me.  That being, "If I can live in an income property of mine, than someone else should be able to as well."  Therefore, your personal tastes may reflect into your properties.  If the goal is to upgrade your kitchen down the road, why not start slowly on the process now.  Explain to your tenant, that you have every intention of providing a working dishwasher.  And know going into it you will be upgrading slowly but surely.  This will add value to your property, therefore hopefully increasing cash flow. I think it's a no brainer to add the stainless steel dishwasher.
