Its not a matter of "don't adopt the technology" but rather how do we implement the technology to better suit the tenant and landlord. Whether we like it or not, Smart devices are becoming mainstream. Ideally, the manufacturers need to implement a landlord or rental mode so the devices can easily be managed on the account backend as tenants come and go. Most likely this will be integrated in the future and will allow a wider adoption of these devices for landlords. Tenants enjoy these technologies and for landlords, can provide a value add. I'm not currently going through this scenario but would like to know for future reference. I already have in my lease agreements tenant is responsible to remove said smart devices from their accounts. The question at hand, for those that use these in their rentals. Will hard resetting the devices decommission them from the tenants accounts? Thanks for the feedback

How is everyone handling when a tenant moves out and has their smart phone connected to the Nest thermostat? My understanding is doing a hard reset on the thermostat factory resets it so the next tenant can connect to it. I'm not entirely sure how this works if the tenant added the thermostat to their Google account. Also replaced the garage door opener with a Chamberlain that is MyQ compatible and a Samsung Smart range. How does this work once a tenant moves out and added these devices to their phone?

Thanks,
