Thanks Matt, I appreciate the advice! I think the sooner I get my feet wet the better especially at this time in my life: I am still young and have very little on the line.

Post: Side by Side Duplex vs. Stacked Duplex

Hello All,

I recently got a tour of an underpriced house that could easily be converted into a duplex. However, it would not be a side by side but, rather, a stacked duplex. I was wondering if anyone has had much experience with stacked duplexes and what the major downfalls are with stacked (specifically, noise issues)?

I was also curious with how effective sound proofing is and if it would add many costs in converting a single family into a duplex?

Thanks,

Michael

Hello Everyone,

My name is Michael, a 20 year old student at the University of St. Thomas. I am double majoring in real estate and finance. Ever since I was young, I have had a passion for real estate. As long as I can remember, I have spent my family dinners talking about real estate with my dad, who is a local investor himself.

I joined Bigger Pockets because I want to learn more about real estate from active, experienced investors, not just professors. I am hoping to use this knowledge to get my real estate investing off to a good start; my brother, dad, and myself have been sluggishly searching to find an investment property (likely in multifamily) over the last six months or so. Finally, we are starting to get a little more serious about our search and will be much more active in the coming month.

I'm looking forward to meeting plenty of new people here on Bigger Pockets and learning as much as I possibly can along the way. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Michael
