I'm looking at Summerville because I live there. I'm obviously new to the STR game and am interested in getting to know people who are already doing it.

So from my research, 

Summerville, you have to live in the house at least 183 days a year and claim it as your residence for anything less than 30 day rental. 

Down town Charleston is a nightmare as you can only do it in the business district and there is a map that shows you where you can be. other areas of Charleston, you have to live in the house and be at the house while it is being rented out for anything less than 30 day rental.
