Post: Seek advice introducing investing to young adult children

I have a question for the BP community. I want to introduce the concept of real estate investing to my adult children. (22 & 26) I’ve been “hanging” around Bigger Pockets for a few years now but have yet to do my first deal. (not complaining or making excuses) As timing would have it, all three of us are exploring career “options”. I’m looking to expose the concept of building wealth and getting them involved so they “could” become financially independent (or at least be financially savvy) even if they decided this isn’t what they want to do full-time… or perhaps not at all. Both are college educated, but when it comes to personal finances, it blows me away how little is taught not only in high school, but at university level as well!

For me, I’m a remodeling contractor and have stopped taking on any more projects. I’m finally putting my efforts into something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. (If you’re looking for a contractor to partner with, send me a message) I still enjoy remodeling work, but I want to do it for myself! So on to my question for you all.

With so much great content available on Bigger Pockets, if you wanted to introduce investing to a someone and “make a good first impression”, which BP podcasts, blogs or articles you suggest?

Thanks,

"Dad"

Hello Melissa,

This is my very first post on BP! Congrats on your new adventure, I hope to be doing what your doing very soon! I regards to cabinetry... I'm jumping the gun a little, my plan was to introduce myself to the network, learn from others and offer what I "bring to the table"... I am a woodworker/cabinet builder by trade and own a kitchen remodeling contract business in Southern California... but I haven't even filled out my profile yet!

As a contractor, I get true wholesale pricing from some of the biggest manufacturers in the country including the ones you would pay retail for at the big box stores that you mentioned.

If you are interested, I would be happy to create a layout, design and 3d rendering for you for free and give you a couple different price points for cabinetry. At a minimum, can use the drawings for obtaining other bids, it's fine with me. Even though I'm far away, all orders ship directly to you from the manufacturer and shipping is included. Even if you don't order from them, would be a good learning experience for both of us.... and I'm offering this at no cost to you... just looking to start networking! (This goes for anybody else as well... more info coming in my intro)

Doesn't matter if you know what you want or not from a layout-design standpoint, just supply me with a layout of the kitchen (can be hand drawn on a napkin... just need the lengths and height of walls, window locations... maybe take pic's as well), I'll be happy to do this for you. Keep in mind, you will get much better pricing and quality than the box stores, but it does take 3-5 weeks depending on the manufacturer you decide on... and installation is not included.

I plan posting more information soon for everybody... but for now, good luck and let me know if I can  help!
