@Account Closed give me a call sometime. I'm a lender at Exchange State Bank, Ames, and might be able to help you out!

So, after many hours of research and making contacts, I finally have the answer.  In Iowa, you can hold dual license. That means you can hold your Real Estate Salesperson License, AND your Lenders License at the same time. You are unable to be apart of the same transaction representing the financing and real estate side of things, but you can still participate accordingly.  I hope this helps anyone else out there.

I've had this question on my mind for quite awhile and need to put it out there.

I'm currently a full-time mortgage loan officer at a local bank here in Ames, Iowa. I gained my degree through the University of Northern Iowa where, upon graduation you only have to take the ethics part of the agents requirements and the final test to become a registered real estate salesperson agent.  So why not, right?

My question: may I be a mortgage loan officer and hold my real estate license at the same time? I will never put those license to work in the same deal but need to know if this is legal?

I would imagine selling a couple houses a year (there's a great opportunity I can discuss later with guaranteed listings), and having the borrower get financing through another bank in town, while still maintaining my normal day job.  Again, never providing financing on the same transaction that I would be representing as an agent.

Please let me know what you think!

Thanks for the insights @Fred Heller and @Mitch Coluzzi

Hey Jacob, I'm a current resident of Ames and like you seem to be just getting my feet wet. You're right when you say that there are a few large companies that own rentals because I work indirectly with them. It's daunting to think, how on earth could I compete with them or get deals that they won't already have secured. I'd love to meet up sometime or chat as you see fit. Matt Roghair

Do any of you know of a group in the Ames area that meets on a regular basis to share ideas and stories of their real estate investing career?

If not, I would welcome the idea to meet with anyone who is interested in that!

Have a great 4th of July weekend!

I would strongly suggest Integrity Construction.  Locally owned from Ames, but does work in surround cities.  They just hired a new employee who just focuses on remodels.  They do exceptional work, and honest in their craftsmanship! Brad Heemstra is the owner, and I know would welcome a call for remodel!

Hey @Elijah Dicks, I plan to start investing the next couple years but would love to gain advice/guidance/tips from some seasoned investors.  I live in Ames, so it's no problem to swing down to Des Moines.

If anyone else in interested in the Ames area, we could make a brother club that meets like you do and see how the cities compare!

So if I have this correct, if an investor wants me to manage their property for them, then I would need a brokers license?

I was just looking this same topic up yesterday @Matt Holmer, because I saw something about property management needing a brokers license.
