@Lucia Rushton I'm looking to a single family 3/2. I'd like to live in one bedroom, rent one of the bedrooms out, and have 1 as an office or guest bedroom. It's a short term home for me, but long term rental property. So getting a mortgage in that $1600 range is important.

Bart, thanks. There are some good properties in the Bishop Arts area. Lots of older homes that are renovated and have some good character to them.

Hi all,

I'm potentially moving to Dallas in Jan / Feb of 2020 and if I do so, would like to purchase a house there. I'm in the process of getting qualified but looking at 250-300K. Anyone have any good recommendations of neighborhoods to look at?

I need something close(r) to both airports, close to downtown, and in an area with good restaurants, and bars. North and NW Dallas look to be good spots but it seems like there are some good properties just SW of downtown as well.

Thanks in advance!

Matt

Got it. Thanks. Maybe I'll pay cash for the downpayment and then do a small HELOC for renovations to get a feel for the process and not go house poor.

A down market can happen any time. My advice - don't buy a house that is negative cash flow, and don't invest solely on appreciation. History has shown as markets go up and down rents usually hold true. So instead, focus on properties with positive cash flow (if you're renting).

For flips, I think if you do a good job then you'll be OK but remember most people purchase and move in the spring and summer so it will be more competitive in those months.

Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread on borrowing against my house. I have a home in Portland, OR that has about (just guessing) 75-100K in equity. I'm looking at buying a 150-200K condo in Scottsdale, AZ with a good friend as we both are in AZ frequently.

If I wanted to use a Home Equity Line of Credit, etc. would that go just for the down payment on the property or would I need to cover my entire half of the investment? I'm a self starter and looking to use my equity to get a few rental properties and need some strategic help to maximize and invest my equity.

Thanks!
