I've been interested in the Orono market a bit, from people I've talked to who own rental units there I hear the town is unfriendly to landlords but again I don't have personal experience so hard to say. Old Town seems tough as well, good deals on property but the town seems set on waiting for the mill to come back online, I've seen very little progression since I first saw it in 2007 while Bangor has grown and changed quite a bit.

I've struggled to find people who understand the buy and hold concept. Anyone I try and get info from or talk with seems set on flipping which I may be interested in but I think buy and hold is my calling (hard saying without having done it yet haha). As far as local contractors I do know a few and I myself am a very hands on person. I'm a landscaper and know quite a few really good people in the grounds and management fields and would love to partner with some property managers to talk about that aspect which I feel is lacking in the area. I would love to get into aviation too, my father had his private pilots license and I've always been intrigued by it.

Hope I'm not hijacking the thread here, as someone who lives in Bangor as well and with a nearly identical story (rich dad, richest man in Babylon, 10x and close to 100 more) I've been hooked. As someone who has chosen loving my work over the money, it's tough financially to come up with options. I agree about the market and have often found it difficult to even find a nice rental at times and they seem to go fast from what my friend said about his units. I'd love to meet and talk to like minded people who understand the greater plan!

@MichaelWebster ok thanks, the loan officer I spoke with said I would need a year at the new job if it is in the same industry before they could do anything but I'll look into it more as I get the time. Thank you for the tip!

Greetings from Maine,

My name is Mark and while I'm brand new to investing in real estate, I have been interested in it for about 3 years. I am primarily interested in buying and hold rentals and house hacking. Financing is going to be my biggest challenge/most rewarding hurdle at the moment. I have yet to purchase a unit but have found several I'm interested in but since getting brought on by a new company I haven't put in the 2 years for traditional bank financing. I'm excited to meet and learn from all you great folks and share my story as I go forward.

Thanks!

Mark
