Post: Looking to start in Halifax

So, after lurking around, trying to find places to get started on, I finally bit the bullet and got into PRO.

I'm currently serving in the Royal Canadian Navy in Halifax, NS and I did a bit of googling and it lead me to believe that there is a market where I live. (Well, it confirmed my hunch. And the post in question was about 2 months old from here!) Problem is that I don't have people to talk to or a mentor; this is my first go. Money is an issue too (I got some cash, but definitely not enough to put 20% down), but I don't know how I can leverage using a loan to finance the first deal.

Anyway, I'll keep on looking, but I would like to work with a local realtor who can help me get my feet wet; I just don't know who to talk to. I am looking to cater to my fellow servicemembers or perhaps students looking for cheap schooling here.

I got viewpoint.ca which is an amazing map of the real estate in the province, but I'm not sure how accurate it is and how to use it as an investor.  My in-training PO showed me this website the moment we were talking about nice homes to look for when I first got posted here.

In all this leads me to this tl;dr:

- looking to find my first deal in Halifax, but can't decipher from the information I'm reading

- since I have a lot of time on my hands, I am willing to learn but need someone to show me the ropes

- I unfortunately don't have a lot of DIY skills, but am good with website building/graphics and social media

- looking for local (if not, Canadian) REI groups. :D

Definitely appreciate the welcome and the help guys! I'm looking forward to working and learning with you!
