Post: New Agent Looking for Investor-Friendly Broker

Hello BP family! I am a newly licensed real estate agent looking for broker recommendations in the NW Miami-Dade County (Miami Lakes, Hialeah...) or South Broward County areas in FL.

I primarily decided to get licensed for personal investing purposes, and for this reason looking for an investor-friendly broker, but would also like to gain experience as an agent part-time. I plan to check with local REIA clubs for recommendations as well, but was wondering if anyone here has had a good experience with a particular broker, or knows anyone they would highly recommend. I'd really appreciate your suggestions!

@Jeremy Hobbs,

I have not signed up for any REI mentoring program (at least not yet), but from the research I have done, if I were to sign up, I would choose the BREIA Program. I attended their 2-day bootcamp a couple of months ago and found it very helpful, got to know them better. I've also spoken to several of their mentoring students, some who had previous experience with national "guru" programs, and they all seemed very satisfied with the level of education and support they receive from their mentors at BREIA, telling me the experience has been like night and day. Having said that, it is tough, at least for me, to cough up almost $30,000 for mentoring with of course no guarantee that I will find any deals, which is why I have not jumped in yet...but I guess it's a risk you gotta take, and trust that if there are other mentoring students finding deals, you will too. Also, in all fairness, I have not checked out the CFREIA mentoring program, as they're a little too far from me, so not sure how the two programs compare. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thank you @Dmitriy Fomichenko for the great tips and warm welcome!

@Matt Motil, thank you! Yes, we have been discussing the possibility of investing in other markets and are definitely open to the idea, especially because of the high entry point here in South Florida. However, we figured we should try to start locally while we gain experience, since we are familiar with the area and have some local contacts already. I've heard the Midwest is a great area of the country for REI right now. Would you recommend OH? Good luck to you as well!

Hi BP community! My husband and I are new to real estate investing, recently relocated to Miami, FL after my husband retired from the military. He has experience in construction management and originally it was his idea for us to consider starting our own business investing in RE. My professional background is in clinical social work and healthcare administration and, not being familiar with real estate, I was at first skeptical and kept telling myself "maybe one day." However, I came across Rich Dad Poor Dad and reading this book was a great inspiration. I've read multiple books, blogs, and articles on the subject since then. The more I learn, the more interested I become, and determined to take action! I realize REI requires hard work, time, and dedication, especially as you get started, but none of these scare me, as that is how I've always taken any job or endeavor in life. At least this time I will be directly reaping the rewards of my hard work. In doing additional research came across BP. I think this site/community is such an invaluable resource, and I'm looking forward to connecting with other investors, new and experienced!

In terms of goals, we are working now on building our team and want to buy our first deal by early 2018. We are planning to start with fix and flips to grow our capital, but eventually want to concentrate on building passive income so that we can both retire early. We are looking for SFH's or small multi-family deals to start with, but with time, experience, and more capital, want to invest in large multi-family/commercial deals. That's a little bit about us. As I said, looking forward to connecting with the rest of the BP community :).

@Lucas Machado,

Thanks so much! I really appreciate your feedback. You made some great points, and I'll definitely keep them in mind as I decide whether to do this mentoring program or not.

@Greg Grant,

Like you, I've been considering the BREIA Mentoring Program and while doing my due diligence came across this thread. I see the other BP members who might have been interested in the program in the past have not been active here for quite some time. What about you?  If you don't mind, can you share if you ever went through with the program, and if so, what was your experience?
