@Ralph R. sounds like a good value, but I agree, you're not even getting beers for $90!

Traffic ticket lawyers bundle the appearances for all the clients onto one day. 20 tickets at $100 a pop is a $2000 day!

Sounds like you're doing alright for yourself there! How'd you end up in storage?

@Ralph R. the trip costs are deductible, I usually go once a year but haven't been able to this year.

I prefer a cash back card, using Citi Double Cash these days, 2% rebate.

I called a few lawyers and ultimately hired one for $90. Fees ranged as high as $250. It's a volume game for them.

@Ali Boone Hired a lawyer today after speaking to a few to see about getting it dismissed once I show it's fixed. Fingers crossed, will update. Sounds like it should work.

@Ali Boone I have been unsuccessful getting anyone on the phone. The citation states I can walk in any day before the court date. I would certainly do that if it made financial and/or life sense.

Yup, that's exactly what I did last year during a turnover. It was very informative and I agree with your recommendation.

Deanna McCormick it's the city of Dallas, and I am entitled to a hearing, in person. The plane ticket alone is more than the fine. Have had no success getting anyone from the city on the phone. The fence encloses the backyard. I'm happy to fix the fence. Not happy to have to pay the fine. Part of the property manager's responsibility is to ensure the property is up to code.

Ali Boone I was very surprised to receive the fine without a warning first. I have properties in Mesquite and have received notices to correct from the city that if left unremedied will result in fine. But this is City of Dallas and I am unaware of any warnings. I only know because I received a copy in the mail from the City. I don't know if tenant advised property manager of the citation, but I did get a work order notification the following day re the fence. I am annoyed at the situation because it betrays a level of inattentiveness to the property they are being paid to manage. Thanks for your input.

One of my out of state properties that is managed by a company received a citation for a substandard fence. Based on my google maps street view that was updated six months ago, it appears numerous pickets are missing at random intervals. This is a corner lot property so it's really obvious as you pass by. The fine is almost $400, and being unaware of the issue had no way to prevent it. However, there have been numerous work orders for the property this year, and the crews would no doubt have observed this issue and should have reported it back for repair prior to my receiving the citation. So the question is, who pays the citation?

Also, congratulations, it sounds like you did a fantastic job landing a phenomenal deal! Welcome!
