Post: How many RE investors are Architects?

Thank you @Jason H. for starting this thread. I always wondered how many architects interested in real estate are out there. It’s a great feeling to find others who share similar goals.

I’m an architect in NYC. I worked for a large corporate firm, then a wild startup, and now for a small developer acting as a Project Manager/Construction Super.

Currently, I am looking to purchase my first property upstate New York near Albany. It’s a vacant plot of land. I am licensed in the state of New York and plan to produce the construction documents for this new construction.

Anyone out there in the Bigger Pockets Community that has designed and built one of their investment properties? I would love to hear your story.

Thanks.

Hi BP community. I have read a few posts regarding Lansingburgh and North Central in Troy, New York. A few of these posts are two or three years old.  Below are a few questions I wanted to ask to anyone who has recently invested in North Central/Lansingburgh.

How was your experience finding contractors? If it was a renovation job was it easy to find labor for demo and finishes?

Has anyone had experience with the Troy Community Land Bank? How is the process of obtaining a property from them?

Would you recommend ground-up construction? I have a background  in architecture with experience in construction management. Curious if anyone has had any luck going through the process of planning approval up in Troy.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Brett,

I also came upon this post as Joshua did. Do you have any updates on how your investment turned out?

Thanks so much.
