Hello Bigger Pockets community and future friends,

I am Matt and I am living in Knoxville, TN.  I have been in law school for the last three years and now finally have my J.D.  Hopefully, after I take the bar this summer I will be a licensed attorney.

I want to have financial freedom and be able to take care of my parents in their retirement.  That is my why!  My plan is to primarily hold cashflow positive single family and multifamily homes, but I am open to the idea of flipping, perhaps to build cash to buy holds.  I hope to use my unique position as a (future) real estate attorney to my advantage as a real estate investor and vice versa.  Right now, my biggest obstacle is the fact that I have no cash and am in significant debt from school, but, trust me, I am not going to let this hold me back.

I have had a strong interest in real estate investing for a long time now -- probably starting with my reading Rich Dad Poor Dad about 7 years ago.  I have read a handful of books on the subject, and listened to a dozen or so of the BP podcasts just recently.  Now that I am done with law school I feel that I can really get started in this business!

Right now my immediate plan is to keep learning, find a network of people, find a mentor, finalize my initial investment plan/strategy, and then go out and find my first deal.  I would love any help I could get from all of you much more experienced than me; this seems like an incredible community I would love to be a part of.  If you are are near middle or east TN please let me know!

Thanks,

Matt
