Thank you, Nayeem. I have used handymen in the past, but only for some general repairs. Otherwise service people have just been plumbers, electricians, painters, gardeners and general contractors. I do like your idea of a handyman for easy, general stuff. For example, the kitchen faucet needed replacement last week. I bought one from Lowes and had a plumber put it in (something I have done many times-easy job). I'll do some work on this idea.

I have had it managed for about three years. During that time, whenever there has been a maintenance issue I have handled it myself- either on the phone or online. I don't feel that the management has been a good value.

I do think that I may have to hire an agent to find and screen to tenants, even though I'd rather not spend that money either. It's just that I'm concerned about getting the highest quality tenant. I am wondering if an experienced agent, with an excellent track record would be the best choice as a finder.

I own a valuable single-family home in Los Angeles. For the past 3 years it is has been  rented and managed by a property manager. I pay this guy a monthly fee, but do just about all of the calls for maintenance, etc. myself. I am considering managing it myself from across the city once this contract is over. I do have family members in LA that could check on things for me, if necessary. Opinions, please.
