@Lisett Tito I agree with a combination of both replies you have gotten to this question. On one hand, I completely agree with @Peter Mckernan when he says you need a mentor and someone to help you through the trials and tribulations of learning the business you're not taught in pre-license courses. On the other hand, I actually recently switched brokerages to eXp because I am also part time and needed something with flexibility. I was not able to go into the office for earnest money or closing documents or training, and any trip I had to make to the office was an inconvenience. Like @Marian Huish stated, eXp has constant training available that is totally online and covers every topic you can think of. That was a huge selling point for me. There are some downsides, however. In a brokerage like eXp, if you do not choose the correct person to sign up underneath that will provide you mentorship, then you might find yourself on your own a little, needing to seek out answers yourself. There are mentorship programs for new agents that provides this for you. Just make sure you really choose the right person to sign up underneath that is going to invest into your success. Remember, when you sign up for eXp, whoever you sign up with will make money when you close a transaction, which means everyone would love to have you on their team, but you have to be very intentional about who is going to provide you the most value, not just who sells you best on the brokerage. Best of luck!!!

Yes! I'll definitely be intentional and take my time choosing the right brokerage for me.

Quote from @John Warren:

@Lisett Tito when you think about training, make sure you are specific. Do you want sales training? Technical training on how the MLS works? Most people who pass the realtor course don't actually know how to make money as an agent! I agree with @Austin Johnson that you want some mentorship. You also want to be introduced to a fantastic team (lenders, attorneys, inspectors, insurance agents) who can help your pipeline be seamless for your clients.

You will also want to work backwards a bit. Are you wanting to work with investors (likely since you are here!)? Retail clients? Commercial RE? Leasing? There are a lot of options, and every brokerage will have a different focus.

I agree though, that you don't need an office. Having a real estate office to work out of is so 1995.

 Thank you! All great insight, I think I was rushing to find a brokerage but all of this information is helping me ground myself a bit more and really consider different factors. Appreciate the feedback!

Hello!

I recently passed my real estate exam. I work full time as a psychotherapist. I am currently looking for a brokerage to work with in the Chicago area.

Why did I get my license: I enjoy my job as a psychotherapist, having the ability to sit with individuals, listen to their stories and work with them in the process of healing is definitely a privilege for me. However, mental health also encompasses financial well-being, which from my experience isn't addressed enough. As an active investor I want to continue to help other succeed in all areas of their lives. I want to keep learning, networking, investing and growing with a brokerage that is aware and mindful of my current schedule.

Any particular brokerages that offer education and flexibility with work schedules? Questions I should keep in mind when interviewing?

Hello!

Hoping to talk to someone regarding properties in auction. What is the process like, difficulties encountered, what to look for, role of an agent. Or perhaps thoughts on purchasing properties in auction.

Appreciate the input!

@Joe Splitrock

HI Joe, definitely agree with you! I've been in that boat (managing tenants), trying to remind myself that my mental health matters and doing what helps me is so important and so important for everyone to do the same. Appreciate the input, will definitely reach out as more questions come up.

@Dave Poeppelmeier

Hi Dave,

Thank you for the input. I'll be attending a meet up this weekend. I'm trying to be aware of different systems out there and play it safe. Any input on playing it safe or what to look for?

Yes, I plan to continue to invest in Chicago mainly with multifamily units.

Thanks again
