@Brenda Hedges - thanks Brenda. I went and got pre-approved with Buddy at Spruce Mortgage and I am pretty positive he used the FHA loan when running my numbers. I am going to double check though.

I am excited to start learning - I am traveling this weekend and have already downloaded some of the podcasts for my ride.

Thanks for reaching out and for the information.

@Tom S. thanks for the recommendation, but I already have a real estate agent - Katrina Roberts from Greentree Real Estate, she has been really great and is teaching me a lot about what I should be looking at. It seems like there are so many great real estate agents in this area it is hard to choose!

I am looking in both Burlington and Winooski, have you owned multi-units in both or either of those area's before?

@Daniel Boucher - Yes, that sounds great - I am always happy to make new connections. I read your profile and it sounds like you could teach me a thing or two on the financial end - would love to pick your brain and connect when you're back in the area.

@Blair Knowles I would love to chat and talk to you about what you encountered in the first year after your purchased your first duplex. Did/do you live in the first duplex your purchased or did you rent out both sides?

@Emmanuel Tejeda yea - I am just starting the process and seeing where it takes me. First things first is buying my first multi-unit and seeing if I can make that work.

Hi, my name is Lindsay. I am currently living in Burlington, Vermont (as a renter) and I am in the process of looking for/buying my first duplex/multi-family home. I plan on this being a owner occupied residence and renting out or airbnb(ing) the other unit. Looking for solid resources to help me along in this process. I have hopes to grow in the property investment industry and use my love for interior design (and attempts at being handy) to help me invest in (as well as quickly flip) additional homes in the future. I am trying not to get ahead of myself and just want to make the right choices when purchasing my first home/property.

I am a little nervous about finding a contractor, plumber, electrician, ect.  that I can trust and will give me good rates since I didn't grow up in the area and my network is small in the home improvement area. Being a younger female in this industry I want to get to know my stuff so I don't get taken advantage of.
