Post: Any Value to Getting Home Improvement Contractor's License?

Awesome, great info from everyone!  My girlfriend is getting her real estate license I figured that I would get a contractor's license - assuming I can do that without quitting my day job and working in construction for a number of years.  I would prefer to have my girlfriend market a property that has been "professionally" rehabbed by my contracting business and that will be when I quit my day job.  That's the goal anyway.  We'll learn a lot over the next couple of years for sure.

Thanks for all the input.  I think after reading @Ibrahim Hughes comment about the restrictions in Newark (which likely extend to the rest of NJ), it would be in my best interest to get my GC at some point.  While I'm a ways away from doing a full rehab, I'll look to to get licensed down the road when I start picking up the pace.  Thanks for the great responses guys!

Hi I'm looking into getting a home improvement contractor's license in New Jersey only for my own property or property that I'm working with a partner on.  Is this worth doing?  Will I be able to save money on materials or will I lose money maintaining the license requirements (Insurance, license fees, etc.)?  I don't have an intention of quitting my day job in the short term.
