@Aaron Chung Yes I totally agree! The terms architects and architectural design has become too associated with high expense and a luxury add-on. Good design should be benefited by all.

Multi-generational design is quite tricky. Especially when considering issues such as privacy and accessibility for each generation! And even more so, when in a small urban lot! But that is what makes it so interesting. :D

I just work in Culver City. I frequent Sawtelle and SFV as my home.

@Joseph M. 50-60K sounds much more reasonable of a target than the prices I see in SoCal. Thank you for the information! If my focus turns that way, I will be sure to contact you.

@Aaron Chung Hey! I'm new to BP and real estate investing in general. Took a look at your profile, and I thought it was commendable that you would like to have affordable apartments for all types of people (including seniors and families). I, personally, am interested in multi-generational housing, as in, homes that are ready for 3 generations to live under one roof.

@Manolo D. Thanks for recommendations! I'm starting to read all the starter books, blogs, etc now.

@MICHAEL YBARRA I have heard that its easier to invest in your own current location. What worries me about SoCal is just the seemingly high initial investment. Of course, I still have a lot to read and learn about the low/no out-of-pocket investment strategies, so perhaps...SoCal will be a viable option. Thanks for the advice!

@Lumi Ispas Thanks for the welcome!

@Jon Huber Didn't know BP had local meetups! Awesome! I'll look into it.

@James Wise I'm drawn to asia for more cultural reasons than any financial standpoint. Taiwan for example seems like a tight and dense city with great transportation, welcoming culture, and low food / everyday costs. I'd love to be able to invest in something there, just so I can go back a lot. I know choosing an area for those reasons isn't logical haha.

@Larry Fried I gotta look into those out-of-state opportunities !

Hello!

My name is Francesca and I am totally new to the real estate field. I am an architectural designer that is interested in having additional sources of income through rental and fix-flip properties.

The Southern California market seems hard to get into, so I am interested in getting into out of state and international markets (especially Asia) as well.

I am pleasantly surprised by the very active and useful (and free!) community that exists here. I am eager to learn as much as I can from everyone else.
