Thanks, all, for your helpful input. This is a pretty complex topic, and insight from landlords is very crucial to getting me started as I research. I may ask some of you for further information, but it looks like I won't be doing the rest of my research and writing until the beginning of July. I'll be in touch then, and feel free to continue to comment on this thread!

I know this topic has been addressed on Bigger Pockets before, but I'm researching an article about the best places to be a landlord (as well as the best places to be a tenant). I'd love to hear from some landlords about whether their state or city is good for landlords or bad for them, and why. Laws, property taxes, rental rates ... whatever the factors are that make you like being a landlord where you are (or hate it). This will be for publication on MSN.com, and I would love to get as much input as possible from all of you. Respond to this thread or shoot me a note, particularly if you don't mind being quoted.

Thanks, Tylor. Good luck in your new landlording venture! What about any tenants out there? Do you have experience living in the same building as a landlord?

Hi everyone, I'm researching an article that I'm writing about situations when the landlord lives upstairs from a tenant (or next door in a duplex, for example) and the pros and cons of this kind of setup. Does maintenance get done faster, for example?

Does anyone live in this situation? Or has lived in this situation in the past? Would you be willing to talk with me?

Thanks for your help!
