Post: Contacts Needed for basement build out/ separating utilities

Hello BP Folks!

I recently purchased my first property, a 2 unit building on Chicago's south side.

The building has 2 units, with the 1st floor duplexed down to a full finished basement.

The building was owned by a family so the gas was never separated.

Ideally I'd like to separate all utilities and build out the basement to be a stand alone unit so that I have 3 units instead of 2. Any recommendations for contractors would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!

Welcone to BP! I'm a new Atlanta based investor as well. Let me know if you'd like to connect. I've enjoyed connecting with folks and bouncing ideas off of people thus far. It's def making me feel more comfortable in taking that first step.

@Tom Shallcross I grew up in Pullman. Happy to see it highlighted so positively. Unfortunately the south side Is lumped together as a “bad” area in the city.

I currently live in buckhead. Admittedly I don’t know much about the different areas as I’ve only lived here and haven’t ventured out much. Ideally I’d like to stay close to where I am because of schools.

Hello. Looking for real estate in Atlanta. As a first-time home buyer I want to househack to get my feet wet and set myself up for success. As I'm looking at the inventory it seems that this tactic can't work here. Has anyone successfully house hacked in Atlanta? Where? What type of property? I feel this method would be better somewhere like Chicago that has more duplex, tri and quads. Thoughts? :-)

@Aja Devaney I’m also a newbie investor looking to buy rental properties but on the south side. I’d love to connect to follow your journey and we both learn along the way.
