Yo @Kyle Williams - What's up brother!  Welcome to the Chicago real estate world!

If you are looking for an agent you have some good ones above in @Paul De Luca, @Jake Fugman, @Victor So, & @Joseph Konney!  My suggestion is to talk to all of these rockstars and see who you mesh best with.

My biggest piece of advice is network = stay active on bp, go to tons of meetups including ours on the 20th (https://www.biggerpockets.com/forums/521/topics/1161044-mill...), meet 1:1 with people as you are already trying to do

I am for sure happy to connect and help you get going on your journey!

Thanks for the welcome and advice! This looks like a great event I will check that out, would love to chat sometime, I'll message you!

@Kyle Williams - Depending on what capital you have to work with, your income, and number of units in your acquisition, you could acquire multifamily with as little as a 1% down payment (for a duplex) and receive up to 10K in down payment assistance.

To maximize your returns, I'd recommend going for a renovation loan to add instant equity to your purchase. You'd have to put 3.5-5% as a down payment of the total purchase price plus renovation cost.

I specialize in investment multifamily properties and have a portfolio myself. There are a lot of nuances to being a landlord in the Chicago market. Happy to help, feel free to connect!

Thanks for the response! I've been toying with the idea of a renovation loan but need to get some more details down as i don't have any experience in renovation work. Would love to learn more about the process as well as being a landlord in Chicago, I will definitely reach out!

I'm house hacking a property I just got a renovation loan on and open to sharing my experience if you have questions.

Thanks would really appreciate that, will DM you!

@Kyle Williams Congrats on getting the process started!  Chicago is an amazing market to leverage a 2-4 unit house hack.  BP has an investor friendly agent and lender directory where you can find some great contacts to get conversations rolling. Check out the "build your team" page.

What type of medical RE are you interested in?  Commercial medical office space?  IF you are an MD or PA you can also leverage amazing low down payment owner occupy financing.

Thanks for the recommendation I will check that out! And you got it, commercial office space is my goal so i'm working on my RE experience while learning more about commercial investing/trying to learn from those who have done it before me. In terms of owner occupied financing, I've been looking into using an "MD loan" vs FHA/203K but the lenders i've spoken with aren't always familiar with the physician loan when it comes to MFH.

Hi everyone! New to real estate, I've lived in Chicago for the past 3 years working in the medical field and plan to get my start with a multi-family house hack within the next 5 months. I've been primarily working on educating myself and am now in the process of finding a lender/agent to work with, but am looking to expand my network in the Chicago REI community and learn from those who have greater experience than myself. Additionally, if anyone has experience in medical real estate I would love to pick your brain on starting out as a new RE investor, as this a long term goal of mine. Would be happy to chat on BP/over coffee/zoom/whatever works for you, I appreciate the help and looking forward to connecting! Cheers

Welcome Kyle! I used to be in the medical field too. I was a pharmacist by profession and after years of working, I realized that this was not what I wanted to do forever.  I decided to jump into real estate and have househacked continuously since 2017. I have acquired a handful of properties this way. I’d love to share my journey. Shoot me a DM!

Hi Victor, that's awesome you were able to make that transition, would love to chat sometime I will definitely be talking to you soon!
