Thanks for the warm welcome, everybody!  @Tamara Elliott-Deering What is the best way to ensure enough commuters/jobs in an area?  I'm currently looking at a property near a lake and my one concern is the availability of quality renters.

My name is Kyle Vernon and I'm new to the real estate game.  My day job is in information technology and I'm looking to earn some side income while building my real estate portfolio.  I live in Dallas, however, I'm targeting rural areas south of Dallas due to the lower costs involved.  My beginning strategy is to buy homes in good repair and rent them.
