Congrats. I'll try and keep tabs on your REI progress on here. I am from Grand Rapids and currently have 1 multi family (3 units) and one single family. Looking to expand the collection so it's good to hear from other Michigan investors!

Yes. The group you mentioned is just coordinated through meetup.com as far as I know.

The RPOA is an organization with 4 full time people that exists to serve landlords and investors in West Michigan. They have all the current legal forms you could ever need as well as people on hand that can answer any questions you have.

They also have several classes a month on various topics.

The first time I had to evict a tenant they walked me through the entire process from first certified letter all the way through moving their belongings to the curb. It's possible I could have done it without them but it would have been a much longer, more frustrating experience.

But, since you have a PM, they should be able to help you with all of that stuff.

Congrats Jeremy. I have 3 rentals in GR as well. One bought in 2005 and the other in 2006.

Sounds like you are sitting good at this point.

One thing that was invaluable to me starting out as a 23 year old who knew nothing was the Rental Property Owners Assocaition (also on the NW side of town). I didn't have a PM starting out so they'll be able to assist you with much of what I used the RPOA for, but they are still a great organization to be a part of for anyone involved in GR real estate.

Send me a note if you ever have any GR specific issues come up that your manager can't address for you.
