@Manju Nat

I got the same mailers on several properties and the value that they said my properties were worth were no where near accurate. I personally protest my own using the CMA data my realtor provides for free and have had very good success over the years.

I can explain it to you Jerry but I can’t make you understand it. I’ve been to the in person process many times over the years. You go ahead and pay someone else to do it for ya. I’m just trying to help people realize they don’t need to pay someone else to do something they can do for themselves very easily.

Does anyone in the Houston area have any property tax appeal companies they could recommend? I know I can do it myself, but I'd like to see what the cost is versus my time value.

I just did my first protest this year this morning. It took me 15 minutes to file online, it was an easy one as I had an appraisal from Oct last year but 6 hours after I turned in the protest they returned their resolution. They had it appraised at $351,000, I appealed and said it was $321,000 and they came back with a new proposal at $320,500. That saves me over $700 this year in taxes. I would have to pay 25% to 50% of that to get someone else to do what I did in 15 minutes. I don't know about you but it's worth doing it by myself for a $175 to $350 fee that took less than 30 minutes to do....

It’s absolutely worth fighting if they are way high in their appraisal numbers. I fought 7 properties in central Texas last year and they lowered all 7 from $10,000 to $104,000 totaling $246,000. These tax assessors are just throwing numbers out and hoping people don’t protest.

@Jack Lee They might lower to what you paid for the property but they will never go lower. Get CMA's from your local realtor and protest. We just got last years protests settled in late December, starting to protest this years now. I had one property go up 76% and my realtor says he's seen lots of appraisals worse than mine. It's almost criminal what they are doing. Best of luck.

@Sattir Bitti What county are you in? As @Matt Barth said, it's time to appeal. It's an easy process, get CMA's on similar properties from a local realtor and file with the tax assessor in your county.
