@Karen. Thanks. It's hard not to take offense when folks make you sound like an idiot for asking a simple question. This whole hiding behind your computer makes folks think they can put you down for thinking about alternative ideas of saving money. It instead becomes a Chinese Drywall name calling game. Never mind that there people everywhere in the world who are corrupt and will do anything to make a quick buck. The notion that somehow the Chinese are the only ones doing this is absurd. I have received myriad of private messages saying significant savings are to be had by making a simple trip to mainland China. Others have pointed me to local dealers who create a co-op of sorts for importing materials for homebuilders like me. I am specifically not looking to import certain items like windows, faucets etc. Only items that you would find in local stores or dealers.

Thanks Michael,
I know people on the ground in Shenzen and Shanghai so money transfer is not an issue. I appreciate your response.

I am big boy Bill. I don't get intimated by folks like Rob K. I deal with them on a daily basis. If Rob had his own business and could make products in China and could pocket a million dollars a month by selling them here, he would skin the poodle himself and deep fry and eat it for a months on end. It's a typical response from jaded folks. It's money I have saved for 20 years and it was a post to ask a simple question. I appreciate the insightful replies on if 1 house as someone put it is bulk enough to save money. I should have known better to post a question on this board.

I am in the process of building my home from scratch. We bought land several years ago and are ready for construction. I have heard that making a trip to China to purchase myriad of products that you would buy here (that are already from China) can save you a bundle. I am thinking Tiles, Cabinets, Doors, Porcelain Sinks, Toilets, Lighting fixtures, LED fixtures etc. Does anyone have experience in this? Please do not sermonize about China the evil and how this is going to ruin our economy. We knowingly and unknowingly buy hundreds of items that are made in China everyday. I am purchasing almost everything else locally.
