The goal is to live in the house as a primary residence.

I just wanted to know the costs of converting a duplex to a single home. In the area I am trying to buy a house a lot of the victorian colonial and craftsman houses have been turned into duplex or more apartments.

I was looking into buying a house that is a duplex. It looks like a normal house, but the first floor has been converted into a 1 bedroom apartment and the 2nd 3rd floor they are calling "like a town home" 3 br 2 bathroom.

I general I wanted a 3br SFH but in the area you have to move farther away for more SFH that isn't super expensive, but there are 2-4 family multiple family houses in the area a lot of which are cheaper then a single family.

To make the conversation all i would do is just remove the inside doors. I wasn't going to move the extra kitchen. I plan on using it for my family. The issue it there are 2 separate gas and electrical meters for the 2 apartments.

Would you convert them to a single? What do you think the average cost would be? Or would you leave it and just have 2 gas and 2 electric bills each month?

Which is doable but a lot of places have minimum monthly charges so each one would probably have a minimum costing way more over time.

Anyway please let me know if anyone can give thei options.
