Thanks everyone for the input. Different state rules had me confused.

I will be closing on my first property in the last week of January. Do I have to pay for the prior year's property tax?

I am about to close on my first house in a couple of weeks. Do I have to pay one year of homeowners insurance out of pocket at closing or can i roll the amount in my mortgage.

I'm currently looking to buy a 4/2 SFM and rent it to university students. I don't know if this is legal because I've been searching the harris county zoning laws and couldn't find anything related to this matter.  This house will be my investment property since I'm closing on my first house which I will live in and house hack.  Does anyone here in houseton have any advice?

Hello everyone, I am getting ready to buy my first house in Houston which I plan to house hack. I was looking around near the UH main campus since I study there and know many students, and also have a good relationship with my fraternity brothers. The problem is that the properties that I can afford near the campus are in bad neighborhoods (sunnyside&south park). I'm still looking for houses within the loop and I would like some advice on how I can attract and find good tenants before my first mortgage payment?
