Quote from @Jonathan Greene:

You don't want to talk to realtors yet because they are all going to pitch you on their area which is of no use if you have no real boots on the ground there. You definitely do not want to go on Zillow to find a location.

This is what you do:

1. Make a list of every place you have ever lived or gone to school

2. Make a list of where your closest family and friends live (the ones you like and trust, not Aunt Mary)

3. Comb through some posts on the most emerging markets in the country at your price point

4. Match up 1&2 with 3 to see where the crossover is.

This way you have some advantage in the area. Either trusted eyes or personal knowledge which will make a first investment outside of San Jose much easier.

@Jonathan Greene I am getting started as well, and I really appreciate your comment. Some great actionable steps to get moving in the right direction.

@Jordan Personius Hey Jordan! The CPA we are using this year is Bela Toledo in GP. I know he has experience with real estate investors, but I’m unsure if he does the tax planning you’re looking for.

@Aaron Martin Hey Aaron, I finally saw this post! I would love to get together and discuss real estate. I am free most nights this week. I hope we can work it out and connect. Also, there is a group I know of that meets somewhat regularly. They meet in Medford. I'll find the info and send it your way.

@Conner Matney thanks for the information. I really appreciate that. Do you have any properties in the Dallas area? There was a multi family property in the Dallas area that some friends and I were looking at.

I don’t have any properties in Amarillo, but I was looking at a property in the NE part of town. I have heard that may not be an ideal location for investment properties. In what areas of Amarillo do you invest?

@Jake S Mckinney thanks for your input. I appreciate that. The property I am looking at is at 1301 Evergreen Street.

@Jake S Mckinney thanks for the reply! There is a multi family property I am looking at that is north of highway 40 (route 66) and east of Hwy 287. What are your thoughts about that area? One suggestion I had read is to look for properties south of I40 and east of I27. If you have any input about those areas, I would really appreciate it.

Hello everyone, I found a property in Amarillo that I am interested in. My friend has reached out to the listing agent. I am hoping to connect with others familiar with the area. Thanks in advance for your time.

Hello, my name is Kenny Durrant. The only background I have in real estate is purchasing our house 2 years ago. I am originally from Ogden, Utah.

I currently work as a Physician Assistant in an orthopedic surgery practice in Grants Pass, Oregon.

I am interested in buy-and-hold rentals. I am hoping to purchase my first property this year.

I joined BiggerPockets in November of 2017, after my brother told me about the site. I listened to the podcast show 272 today, and the quick tip was to post an introduction so there it is.
