Post: Recommendations for a Self-directed Roth IRA Custodian - Equity Trust anyone?

Hello! Looking for advice and suggestions for a Roth IRA Custodian

I'm looking to roll over a traditional IRA to a Self-directed Roth by the end of the year, and use that for my investing. I had a long conversation with Equity Trust today, and I'm almost ready to move forward with them, but upon further investigation they seem to have some pretty negative reviews. Has anyone here used them for a Roth? Any feedback positive or negative would be appreciated!
Or suggestions for other companies that provide a similar service? Seems like the Roth is the way to go - I want to choose the right partner!
TIA all!

@Allie Pfannenstiel

Hi Allie,

I know this thread is from 3 years ago. I am a new RE investor and I am still in the market selection phase. I'm in SoCal, so my backyard is pretty much out. I am looking into the Phoenix metro area for a variety of reasons, yet I realize there are many challenges in that market as well. You had posted here 3 years ago about grants the city of Phoenix was rolling out for rehab on multifamily - can you please tell me if that program still exists, and how I can find out more information? Much appreciate any info!! I sent you a connection request also. Thanks!

@Account Closed

Thanks for your response! I'm happy to hear the content will include small residential. I feel like that will be the best place for me to start my RE journey.

Glad to know I can send in questions ahead of time also! That will be very helpful, I'm sure I will have questions. I'm excited and looking forward to the May start. Thank you!!

@Bruce Lynn

Hi, I'm new here to BP and a new investor. I just attended a seminar today and bought a course from the Saen Higgins "Tax Lien Method" group. At the seminar I discussed Texas with a gentleman who states to have purchased tax deeds there and he informed me of the two year hold but stated I could put renters into the property for that time. Can you confirm if this is correct?

Also, as I am in CA, it would be impractical to be "boots on the ground" for an extended length of time to visit properties and  attend numerous auctions in person. How realistic is it (or not) to do tax lien/deed investing remotely? I have a 3 day rescission period for the course 🤦‍♀️

Thanks in advance!

@Dan H.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for much for your helpful response! I decided to take the plunge and signup for the Small MF. I figure any and all learning will help me towards my goals, and I will just jump on the live classes when I can. I'm excited to get started with the Pro membership benefits also!

It looks like I am not far from you - I just sent you a Connection request, would love to chat! Thanks again for the advice!

Hi, I'm a new member and just getting started on my RE journey. Trying to learn everything I can. Questions regarding the Bootcamps -

1. I'm interested primarily in MF investing, I would like to skip residential MF and go right to commercial and start with about 10 - 30 unit bldng. Will the "Small MF Bootcamp" include how to invest in "bigger" small MF?

2. I will be in Europe mid-June till end of July. With the time difference and my schedule, I think it will be very difficult to participate in the live sessions. Is it still worth it just to get the recordings? Are these bootcamps repeated regularly? Would I be better off waiting till they come around again?

Today is the last day to sign up for early bird pricing. My goal is to have my first property closed by end of 2024. I have been looking into several "guru" mentoring programs but I am skeptical they all sound too good to be true, and some downright scams. I'm prepared to invest in myself, but I want my moneys worth. Any advice is appreciated by this newbie!
