Good for you! This year has been a huge wake up call for SO many people including myself. Now is the time to pursue what you actually love, even if it means taking a huge risk. Wishing you all the best!

@Mike Wiesner Hey Mike, thanks so much for your feedback! I’m thinking that I am going to start off in residential and maybe shadow some commercial brokers to get a better taste of it before I decide. I will definitely check out Kristin, she sounds fantastic. Thanks again!

Hey guys! Per the description, I am currently trying to figure out if residential or commercial real estate would be a better fit for me. I worked  in buying at a high end department store for the past few years, so I am highly analytical and numbers driven. I think I would do well in this regard because I know it takes out the emotions. However, I don’t know a single realtor in the commercial real estate world. I have been interviewing mostly residential brokers, and one did tell me that there is more money in residential than commercial. I have some friends and family connections that are interesting in buying/selling residential property within the next few years, and I’d love to help them, but would I be able to do that successfully if I give the commercial world all my time and energy? Also, I am a young woman and was wondering if there are other young women in this business I could talk to?  No offense to the men but it does seem to be pretty male dominated :) If anyone has any advice to offer please do let me know! I’d love to connect. Thanks!

@Jaysen Medhurst Hey Jaysen, thanks for the feedback! I am currently WFH as well for the foreseeable future, and I also do NOT miss the commute even from when I was living in Brooklyn! Halal guys will still be there for when we decide to go back in again!

I see what you mean about house hacking being less worthwhile, so to speak, in this market. And no, I don't want to live in Bridgeport haha even though my SO and I are still in our twenties with no kids. Would much rather choose a nicer zip code where I know we can build some great equity (and other obvious reasons).

@Account Closed Thanks for the feedback guys! My SO is such a Jersey guy, let's see if I can convince him narrow our search to CT! The taxes being cheaper here are definitely a huge plus.

@Mark F. Hey Mark, this is exactly what's been making me nervous! We are total newbies at this and going up against all cash buyers in this competitive market will certainly be tough (but hopefully not impossible). We won't have our ducks in a row until early next year most likely, so hopefully the market will be a little different by then post all the covid madness.

@Rick DiAgostino Hi Rick, wow! How did you find this gem?! We are not even in the process yet haha, still trying to save as much money as possible by living with our parents. We think we will be ready to take the plunge early 2021. Middlesex seems great, I will keep my eyes out there!

Hey Robert! It’s my first post so the moderator needs to verify it before it comes up. Here’s my question:

Hi everyone, first time posting! My SO and I are currently living at home (he is in Bergen County N.J., I'm in Fairfield County CT) and saving like crazy in order to buy our first property together. We both have 9-5 jobs in NYC and our dream is to find a duplex, triplex, or quad in either north Jersey, Fairfield county CT, or Westchester county N.Y. to house hack. We would ideally put down 3.5% through an FHA Loan, and I can see $750k being the top of our price range as first time home buyers. I've been digging around a lot and it seems like our best options are in CT, in terms of neighborhood quality, price, and something that doesn't look like an absolute dump needing a gut renovation. Does anyone have experience trying to find Multi Family homes in the surrounding NYC area? Do you have better luck in one area vs another? Is house hacking even an option for these crazy expensive zip codes? Any advice at all would be much appreciated!
