I had the same question and decided to add one to our Lake Michigan rental. I called the fire marshal to check the rules + confirmed with our insurance that it wouldn't be an issue. Once they both gave me the green light, I decided to go for it. Handyman is building it as we speak.

 This is so helpful! After watching 20 YouTube videos to try to figure out how to pair my lock remotely and striking out repeatedly, I finally just asked my handyman to download the Schlage app and log into my account.

That's awesome, thanks for sharing! Your place sounds a little bigger than ours - we got a 4 bdrm that's about 3 blocks from the Lake. Planning to put in a hot tub when the snow clears. I'm excited to get started.

@Carl R. thanks for the reply! We initially looked in New Buffalo but it was a bit harder restrictions-wise because we’re out of the area. How has your experience been?
