Not sure if you intend for real estate investment to be your full-time job upon graduation, but consider taking an entry-level job with a real estate investment company.  It'll give you a chance to make some money while increasing your knowledge base about the industry.  And as a bonus, negotiate to receive a cut (either commission or equity stake) of any deals you can put together for the company.

Welcome, @James A..  One thing I appreciate about BP is that it not only contains great content, but points to great external content as well.  Here's a reading list to help build up a real estate knowledge base:

Thanks for the welcome, @Zach Schwarzmiller.

@Kenneth Hynes, agreed on the BP podcasts.  They've been a gold mine of ideas.  Great content!

@Elizabeth Colegrove, Thanks for the welcome! Your goal sounds great. My best friend is also active duty military and he and his wife invest in real estate on the side (their strategy is flipping). I'll take a look at your site... always great to see how others are balancing REI with jobs and other priorities.

@Larry Baker, @James Wise and @Michele Fischer, thanks for the welcome!  @Larry Baker, thanks for the heads up on the local BP Meet Up group.  I definitely plan to check that out.  I plan on visiting a group for the SnoCo Meet Up (North King and Snohomish counties) as well.

Hey, good people!  I'm Kris Clemmons, a recent transplant to Seattle, Washington (from Chicago).  After years of following BP in silence (I'll admit it), I'm excited to add my voice to the platform.

I cut my teeth as a commercial real estate attorney and now I'm changing hats to become an investor.  I'm focused on buy and hold for small (2-4 unit) multi-family properties in King and surrounding counties (e.g., Pierce, Snohomish, Kitsap, and Thurston).  The BP ecosystem has been an incredible source of learning and insights for me and I look forward to getting more involved with the community, especially other investors and professionals in the Western Washington area!
