Without additional information, it wouldn’t be possible to give out an accurate answer. But, short answer is it would likely lower your Oregon income taxes. I’m only able to give examples that I’ve been subjected to while living in WA and working in OR. Generally it is really dependent on where your “place of work” is located.  As a salesperson, when I was officed in OR and did all my work in OR I paid non-resident tax on all my income. When officed in OR and traveled to other states, you only pay non-resident tax on those days you worked in OR. This requires record keeping of your work days. When officed in WA, living in WA and working in OR and other states you pay no OR non-resident income tax.

Where the corporate HQ is located doesn’t matter, it is where they consider you to have your office. Likely if they have an OR location, that will be the location of your office.  If they don’t, then your home is your office location.

Hope this helps.

@Andrew Truitt

Welcome to BiggerPockets. Congrats on saving that by age 23.

Advice specific to MD would definitely depend on where in MD you’re looking to invest and what type of investment you’re seeking. The state seems to me to be more fragmented than what I see in the NW.

Feel free to reach out if you have more specific questions.

We are acquiring a 7 unit apartment building in Cecil County Maryland and am looking for property management.

Previous owner self managed the property.  We will likely do that for the immediate time frame, but will want to transition to a property manager soon.

Please advise any recommendations.

Make sure to do your research on landlord/tenant laws in Portland. It’s easy to get into trouble if you don’t follow them.
